Linea
Privacy & cookies
What Linea keeps about you, why, and for how long, and the cookies it puts in your browser.
Your account
When you sign up, Linea keeps your email address, your user name and your display name. Anything else in your profile (names, prefixes and suffixes, gender, aliases, languages, identifiers, a picture) is there only if you add it, and you can change or remove it in your settings. Linea also keeps what you choose to keep: favorites, what you have experienced, page layouts and your language.
Your password itself is never stored, only a bcrypt hash of it. If you turn on multi-factor authentication, the authenticator key is kept so your codes can be checked.
Records you add or change, files you attach and translations you propose become part of the catalog: everyone can see them, and the history shows that you made them.
Cookies
Linea uses only its own cookies. The necessary ones are always on; the others only with your consent, which you can change at any time.
| Kind | Cookies | What for |
|---|---|---|
| Necessary | linea.auth, linea.sso, linea.mfa-device, linea.signin.return, linea.oauth, .AspNetCore.Antiforgery.*, linea.language, linea.reader-language, linea.cookies | Signing in and staying signed in, across the Linea sites too; remembering a trusted device for multi-factor authentication; returning you to your page after signing in; protecting forms; your language; and your cookie choices. |
| Preferences | linea.theme, linea.textsize, linea.width, linea.vision | Your theme, text size, page width and color-vision setting, kept for a year. |
| Usage tracking | linea.usage, linea.usage.session | Groups the pages you view into a visit. Only when you allow usage tracking. |
Usage tracking
Only if you allow it, Linea records the pages you visit and the buttons and links you use, with your browser's details (name and version, languages, time zone, screen size, color scheme) and your IP address, to see how the site is used. Nothing you type is recorded. These records are kept for 13 months.
Server logs
Like any web service, the Linea API logs each request it answers: when, what was asked and how it went, the account if someone was signed in, the IP address and the browser's identification. The logs keep the service running and secure, and are kept for 13 months.
Other services
If you choose to show your Gravatar as your picture, pages that show it load it from gravatar.com, which then sees the viewer's IP address. Gravatar is given only a hash of your email address, never the address itself.
Emails from Linea, such as a sign-up confirmation or a password reset, are sent through Google's mail service.
