Linea
Terms for contributions
What happens to what you add to Linea, and to the changes Linea sends to other open databases for you.
What you add
You keep the rights you have in what you write in Linea. Facts about people, works, organizations and places belong to no one; what you enter about them is shown to everyone and may be reused under the terms of the source it belongs to.
Changes sent to other databases
Some records in Linea came from open databases. When you change one and choose to send the change back, you agree that your change is contributed to that database under its license, which lets anyone reuse it:
- Open Library (openlibrary.org): dedicated to the public domain under CC0 1.0
- MusicBrainz (musicbrainz.org): its core data is dedicated to the public domain under CC0 1.0
- OpenStreetMap (openstreetmap.org): licensed under the Open Database License, ODbL 1.0
A change is sent only after it is approved: at once when you hold the source's Direct update role, by an administrator, or by other people's vote. MusicBrainz takes such changes only on its own website, so Linea gives you the link instead.
Send only what you know to be right and may share. Never send text copied from a source whose license does not allow it, such as IMDb's data.
Credit
Linea's bot account saves the changes sent to Open Library. If you choose credit in Settings and add your Open Library account name to your profile, the change's comment names your account. Changes to OpenStreetMap are made with your own connected account, so they are yours.
Taking a change back
Before a change is sent, an administrator or the vote can still turn it down. Once a database has saved it, Linea cannot take it back: change it there, as any of its contributors can.
